Weird art + two ways to save on décor
Today I am sharing five décor pieces I can’t stop thinking about, a way to save money on art prints, and some cute rugs that are currently on super sale.
Take my money
Five home décor favorites I’ve either already bought, or am desperately looking for a reason to.
Piazza Apartment Sofa from CB2
I got this for the snug I recently created in my home, and included it in a similar cozy corner for a recent client. It exceeded even my extra-hopeful expectations: it’s super deep, so it’s easy to really curl up your legs and slouch into.
It’s also SO soft and cushy. Your body just sinks into it, but in a good way–it’s still quite supportive. Mine fits snugly between two walls, so it doesn’t bother me that it doesn’t have arms (though is part of a modular sectional collection that includes end seats with arms), but that’s the one thing to be aware of about it. It’s also a little low to the ground, which I love about it for the space it’s in, but just something to keep in mind.
Velvet Louise Curtain from Anthropologie
Anthro can be pricey, but often a smart splurge because the pieces are always special in some way. In the case of these curtains, the images do not do the pinhole detail justice. What look like tiny little white polka dots in these curtains, are actually teeny-tiny little backed punctures in the fabric that allow light to filter through. Not enough to actually let light into the room (I would still consider them black-out curtains), but just enough to create a really beautiful glowing effect. They are gorgeous, and again, worthy of a splurge.
Hexagon Pillar Candle from Food52
I am such a sucker for a cool-shaped candle. I’m obsessed with these hexagon beauties, and the colors are perfection.
Velvet Disc Pillow from Lulu & Georgia
So, I guess maybe I’m actually a sucker for a cool-shaped anything. I usually pair square pillows with a lumbar/rectangle-shaped pillow to add dimension to a seating arrangement, but lately I’ve been throwing in a disc pillow here and there instead. Pair these solid velvet cuties with a fun pattern!
Rescue Mission art by Maarten Léon
I love weird art, and this one’s got everything: drama, great contrasting colors, and two pigs–one of which is in a bucket attached to a rope being pulled up from a ledge by a woman in a white collared shirt. It’s so weird. I love it.
Hack for saving money on art
I will admit, I’m not super savvy when it comes to finding new artists, so I tend to go to larger retailers, like Anthropologie, to look for prints. The downside is that those tend to be pricey, and unfortunately not one of the splurges I can afford. BUT I have a hack!
If I find a print I like, I will find the name of the artist in the product details, then search for them online. Usually artists will have prints available on their own websites for the same pieces at a much lower price. Then I buy a frame separately and put it all together myself. I’ve done this several times and ended up spending half, if not less, than the original price. And my guess is that the artist probably makes more when you’re buying directly from them. This is also a great way to discover new artists!
For instance, I recently saw this print on Anthropologie:
And when I went searching online, I was delighted to discover all the other works of Manon Galama, this Dutch photographer:
Delightful deals
I recently got a Loloi x Chris Loves Julie rug and it was a level of rug softness I have never experienced. I was doing literal ice skating moves in bare feet on it because it felt like a mini spa day for my soles. Anyway, the one I got—and the entire line—is on super sale on Rugs Direct. Run, don’t walk.
Here’s the one I got, plus a few faves:
